The Hulbert Flag - Ever since a 1927 newspaper article said that this flag had been found with some Revolutionary War documents in a Bridgehampton, Long Island, NY. attic, the story has persisted that it was created in 1775 for a South Fork Continental Army company formed by Capt. John Hulbert. It has been known as the Hulbert flag ever since, though many critics have maintained, that there is no firsthand evidence that the flag was made in 1775. There is also no evidence that it was not.

John Hurlbut - His most celebrated expedition as a sea captain was a 32 month trip around the world, completed in 1799, on the whaler "Neptune". Not only was it one of the first American Vessels to circumnavigate the globe, but it was the 29 year-old Hurlbut's first time as a ship's captain. His home, the " Hurlbut-Dunham House", located at 212 Main Street, Wethersfield, Connecticut, now belongs to the Wethersfield Historical Society and is open for viewing.
