Note: He was a farmer near Tecumseh, Neb. (DNH EHH) Obituary: "Alba
James Hurlbutt of Tecumseh, who had been in failing health two
years with heart ailment, passed away at the Tecumseh Hospital
at 4:30 am Friday, March 30, 1951. He had been bedfast during
the last two and one-half weeks, and had been cared for at the
hospital nearly all of that time.
"He was born five and one-half miles southeast of Tecumseh on
September 7, 1882, and spent his entire life in this county. He
received his education in the rural schools. His parents,
Charles and Eliza Lang Hurlbutt, were early settlers of
Illinois...
"Mr HUrlbutt became affiliated with the Long Branch Free Will
Baptist Church in early youth, and was a member of Hamlin
Lodge, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, at Tecumseh. His lifes
occupation was farming, and he lived on a farm until September
1928, when he established a home in Tecumseh.
"He had assumed civic duties, holding offices with the rural
school and was treasurer of the Grandview Cemetery Association,
a position he held at the time of his death.
"Besides his wife and the son already mentioned, Mr Hurlbutt is
survived by two step-children, Mrs Howard (Leona) Zook of
Glenvil and Arthur Boyer of Lincoln; five grandchildren,
Ronald, Zack, Barbara, Alan and Thomas Zook and Lynne Boyer; a
sister, Mrs Frank (Erma) McReynolds of Fort Morgan, Colorado;
and a brother-in-law, Alfred Turner of Denver, Colorado.
"Funeral services were held here Sunday at 2:30pm in the
Wheeler Chapel, with Dr Roy N Spooner, pastor of the Tecumseh
Methodist Church presiding. The I.O.O.F. lodge of Tecumseh
participated in the graveside service. Interment was in
Grandview Cemetery."
