Notes

Daniel had a third marriage after the death of his second wife, but tha t ended in a separation in Canada. He was a blacksmith and a superior wor kman; he first settled in Wethersfield, but became intemperate. He remove d to the vicinity of Hudson, NY, where he reformed his habits, was made J ustice of the Peace and an influential citizen. He afterward removed to C anada. (Hurlbut Gen)

He enlisted December 1775 under Capt. Ebenezer Sumner, Col. Samuel Wylii s, 2nd Regt. Ct. line. He served 1 year to January 1, 1777, when discharg ed. (Nancy Dodge)
The Henry Higgins Hurlbut Genealogy (1888) says Daniel married widow Han nagh Anthony, and even with errors on other info about Daniel's 2nd wif e who may/may not have married him. Until proven wrong, I assume the Sus annah Anthony, living in Wallingford in 1790 with male under 16 and anoth er female, to be that woman. (Nancy Dodge)
In July 1792, Hannah divorced Daniel, who left Connecticut. He was in Wa llingford 7 November 1791 when he was granted Settlers Lot #6 in Stewarts town, NH (Grafton NH County Deeds 3:36). He apparently moved there quickl y, and 16 December 1796 he was granted the right to stay on the land wher e he was already residing and had erected buildings. (Grafton Deeds 5:253 ) (Nancy Dodge)
On 10 November 1819 Daniel applied for a pension, said he was 69, pensio n was granted. Robert Warner and Eli Wilcox of Middletown testified he wa s a Lieutenant in their company.
On 7 July 1820, Daniel says he is 70 with no wife and children.
On 18 May 1839, Miles and Betsey (Elizabeth) Young, children of the dece ased Daniel, are paid arrears of his pension to 14 January 1829, the dat e of his death. On 2 August 1851 Miles and Betsey depose that their fathe r died January 1829 in Clarkville NH and their mother died 12 October 184 9 in Stewartstown, NH.
The New Hampshire Genealogical Record (15:4 page 152) cites an obituar y in the New Hampshire Patriot of 2 February 1829, for Mr. Daniel Hurlbur t, Revolutionary pensioner and patriot, who died in College Grant, NH 1 4 January 1829 aged 81, formerly of Middletown, Ct. The Boston Transcrip t picked up the obituary 16 August 1915.
Neither burial place nor stone have been found for Daniel or Susanna. Th e identity of Susanna is suspected to be Hannah/Susanna (Miles) Anthony b ut has not been proved (Nancy Dodge, Colebrook, NH.)
