  This is a Xerox copy of the Swift Genealogy prepared in draft form by Ra ymond Dodge of Barnstable, Mass., before his death about 1970. His refere nces to 'Eben Swift' are to the booklet of Swift Genealogy published in 1 924 by the Library of Cape Cod, number 15 in that series. He does not ref er to the William Swyft Genealogy published in 1900 by George H. Swift, A menia, New York. Mr. Dodge states as follows:

  I have a copy of 'William Swift and his Descendants' by Eben Swift whic h I used as my basic starting point. Since he didn't give sources, I bega n to do some checking myself. As this turned up some missing informatio n and a few errors I have finally decided that one must start from scratc h to do a complete job. So far I have covered all the pubished VR of th e Mass. cities and towns, I have picked up all the Swifts in the unpublis hed Falmouth VR, Sandwich VR, Wareham VR, in Arnold's Rhode Island, and i n the Connecticut State VR. I have been all through the Mayflower Descend ant, the New England Historic and Genealogical Register, the DAR lineag e books, Virkus Compendium and probably others that I don't happen to thi nk of. I have abstracted all the Swift probates at Plymouth, Taunton an d Barnstable, Mass., most of the State of Conn. probates, all of the Swif t deeds at New Bedford, Mass., and have made a good start of the Deeds a t Plymouth, Mass. and Barnstable. And I have taken Swift information ou t of countless family genealogies covering collateral lines, and from al l the local histories of southeastern Mass. and Connecticut that come t o hand. As to church records I have covered only Plymouth, Wareham and Fa lmouth plus one or two in Conn. There were quite a few Swifts who went of f to Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, the Carolinas, New York and farther w est that I have made no concerted effort to trace. Time enough to go afte r them when most of the mob in southern New England have been properly ca talogued.
