Notes

They were admitted to full communion in the Middle Haddam church June 2 , 1745. His father then at Groton, Ct., deeded to him in Oct 1745, 'a pie ce of land in Middle Haddam, with a barn and shop thereon;' and in 1756 h e bought 35 acres with a house and other buildings in that parish, and be fore as well as after 1762, bought other parcels of land. He appears fro m the records to have been inclined to speculate in new lands. it is sai d that during some five years he was engaged in whaling voyages. During t he Revolutionary War he was a royalist, and though owning a good farm, h e sold his property, and with one of his sons, if not both, removed to No va Scotia, where he purchased land. After the war however, he returned t o Middle Haddam, but he had lost much of his property by depreciation an d forced sales. About the year 1793, he removed with his family to Winton bury, about four miles from Hartford, in what is since the town of Bloomf ield, where according to one account he died aged over 100 years. Yet fro m another source comes that he died aged 95 years, at the home of his gra ndson Russell on Christian Hill in Great Barrington, Mass.
