Hurlbut, Simeon (Mass). Ensign 21st Continental Infantry, 1st January, t
o 31st December, 1776; Lieutenant 4th Massachusetts, 1st January, 1777; r
esigned 30th October, 1777, (Died 16th August, 1825.)
Simeon was a seaman, who purchased land in Sheffield, Berkshire Co., Mass
., on July 4, 1796. Simeon's father and family moved to Sheffield and occ
upied the house and lands. 'East side of the Great River, the first piec
e lying on the east side of the road, bounded South on Moses Stockington
, North on David Stillmans land, the northwest and the northeast bounds a
re white oak staddles, marked with stones about them and the southeast bo
unds are a walnut stump, with stones about it, the other piece is the hom
e-lot on which the house and barn stands. Bounding north on David Stillma
ns Land, east on the Highway, being 30 rods south on the Highway, East an
d west forty on rods and 20 rods wide at the west end, and containing 6 a
cres, be it more or less.' (Hulbert-Renner)
Before 1790, Simeon and his family moves back to Wethersfield. The Hurlb
ut Genealogy says that he settled in Sheffield, Mass were he died from th
e bite of a mad dog, about 1800.
