Walter Palmer came to America in the spring/ summer of 1629. Founded tw o towns as part of a colonist company. 1. Rehoboth, Bristol County, Massa chusetts (founded 1643) 2. Stonington, New London County, Connecticut (fo unded 1653). He was burried with four original founders of Stonington, Co nnecticut at Wequetequock Cemetery. A family marker was erected in 1881 b y descendants of Walter Palmer. Men of Stonington repulsed a Brittish nav al attack on the town both in 1775 and 1814.

Walter Palmer (1598-1662) emigrated from Nottinghamshire, England, in 1 629 to escape religious persecution. He settled in Charlestown, Massachus etts and then to Stonington, Connecticut. He married Rebecca Shroe, by wh om he had twelve children. The descendents fromt his branch of the Palmer s has been very numerous. It is safe to say, that among the descendants o f Walter Palmer have been one President and four Governors of States. [S92]
