Wm. Short Motter's father was born in Louisiana near New Orleans. He ha d ten children and all but William died of yellow fever. Court House rec ords were burned during Civil War. Wm. Short's father was a slave owner . He came north from Louisiana to learn trade of cabinet making. (This i nfo from Alice Mohler Gibbs and am not certain it is correct). Wm. wa s a minister of Church of God. Wm. served as personal aide to General Le w Wallace (author of Ben Hur), and was badly injured in Civil War. Lew W allace was best lman at Wm and Nancy's wedding. Lois Mast has Wm. born i n Avoca, Iowa. [S717]
