He was born in Illinois en route from New Hampshire to Henry Co., Ill. i n a covered wagon. He was a farmer near Bishop Hill, Ill. About 1880 he s old his farm to his brother Frederick at $25. per acre and moved to Nebra ska where he continued to farm. According to information from Lillian Car rico, in 1957, he was in the 'big blizzard of Jan 12, 1888.' She said, 'H e after cattle in pasture...horse stepped in a hole, he fell on saddle ho rn and over horse head...hurt awful bad, he could not move..'and was luck y to be found before freezing(EHH)

Both she and her husband were members of the Baptist Church. It is said , that when a girl during the Revolutionary War, though a mere child, sh e gave important aid to her father, who was a captain, in his preparatio n for military service, such as keeping watch, warning men, etc. (HG p447 ) She is listed in the DAR Patriot Index.
