Notes

on this 14th day of August 1832 personally appeared in open court, before the hon. the court of probate for the district of Bennington, now sitting , Samuel Walice a resident of Stamford in the county of Bennington andth e state of Vermont aged 77 yrs who being duly sworn according to law ,dot h , on his oath , make the following Declaration, in order to obtainthe b enefit of the act of congress passed June 7, 1832. That he enteredthe ser vice of the United States under the following named officers andserved a s herein stated. That in the forepart of March in the year 1775or 177 6 according to his best recollection at Sutton in the county ofWorceste r State of Massachusetts he enlisted under Capt Samuel BaldwinCol. Leonar d Regt . Massachusetts State Troops as he understood for theterm of 8 mon ths and marched to Roxbury Mass where he remained during histerm of Servi ce. General Ward was the first in command . That he wasdischarged abou t the 1st of November 1775 or 1776 at Roxbury after havingserved the ful l term of his engagement and returned to Sutton. That inabout a week aft er he volunteered for 3 months under the same CaptBaldwin and marched Im mediatly to Roxbury where he remained til his termof service expired. Som e time in the month of February 1776 or 1777 hewas dismissed and he retur ned home to Sutton . That in a short time afterhe was drafted for 9 month s into a company under the command of CaptDaniel Boulsten? of Sutton M ass in Col Wayne regt . and marched soonafter to the city of New York w here he stayed about 2 months and thenretreated with the army from the c ity to White Plains were they werepursued by the british and where a sho rt short action was fought and theBritish retreated and The Americans pur sued . That he marched with thearmy to Jerseys Near Elizabeth Town at whi ch place he was dischargedwhich was the later part of December or the for epart of JanuaryFollowing. That he returned to Sutton and voluntered i n the month ofMarch 1778 for the term of 6 months under Capt Joseph Sible y col Keyesregt. and marched immediatly to Providence Rhode Island and fr om there toEast Greenwich an then to North Kingston and then to South Kin gston thento Warren Rhode Island and from there to Tivertown and the bac k to NorthKingston where he was discharged which he thinks was in the mo nth ofSeptember 1778 the later part of the month. Thinks there was a majo r cook and a Lt COL Wade in command . That in the year 1779 in the mont h ofJune he thinks the 8th day at Sutton Aforsaid he volunteered under Ca ptSamuel Grout of the town of worcester in col Golden Regt. for the ter m of3 months and marched from Sutton to Bristol and crossed over to Newpo rtRhode Island where he remained til his term of service expired and he w asdismissed and then returned home to Sutton. That in the Spring orforep art of Summer of 1781 at Sutton Aforesaid he volunteered for 3months unde r Capt Reuben Davis in col Seth Reeds Militia regt and marchedto West Poi nt and remained there until his term of service expired andwas dismisse d . He Hereby relinqueshes every claim whatever to a pensionor an annuit y except the present and he declares that his name is not onthe pension r oll of any agency of any State. He declares that he has nodocumentary evi dence and knows of no person alive who can testify to hisservice . In an swer to the interrogatories propounded by the court theapplicant declare s 1st that he was born in Douglas Mass August 01, 1755.2nd has no recor d of his age . 3rd that he lived in Sutton mass when heentered the servic e Shortly after the peace he removed to Windsor Masslived there 5 yrs the n removed to Adams Mass lived there about 10 yrsthen Removed to Stamfor d Vermont where he has lived ever since . 4th thathe was a volunteer in a ll cases except as stated above . 5th does notrecollect the names of an y of the regular officers except those named inthe foregoing declaration . 6th recieved a discharge at the expiration ofthe 9 months service but h as lost it . That he never recieved any otherdischarge . Samuel Walic e his x mark. Witness William Haswell sworn toand subscribed the day a nd year aforesaid. Application for a transferState Of Vermont County o f Bennington on this 6th day of April ad 1837before me the subscriber a j ustice of the peace for the said county ofBennington , Personally appeare d Samuel Walice who, on his oath, declaresthat he is the same person wh o formerly belonged to the company commandedby Capt Reuben Davis in the r egiment commanded by colonel Wade in theservice of the United States . Th at his name was placed on the pensionrolls of the State of Vermont from w hence he is about to Remove to Lisbonin the county of Saint Lawrence , St ate of New York where he intends toremain , and wishes his pension to b e there payable in the future , andthat his reasons for moving to the Sta te Of New York are he has purchaseda small farm there and intends it fo r his future residence.
