Notes

At age 18, he enlisted in 4th Co., Capt. Eliphalet Whittlesey, Gen Lyman' s Regiment, in the French & Indian War, and was in the disastrous Ft Tico nderoga expedition of 1758; was appointed Ens 5th Train-band, 6th Reg. De c 1776; Lieut.. in same, May 1778, and Capt., May 1779. In 1779 his Compa ny turned out on the alarm of Tyron's invasion. He was active during th e Revolutionary War in raising troops and supplies, and very prominent i n all Town and Church affairs. A Bronze memorial tablet, to him and his w ife, bearing a medallion portrait of Capt Wells was placed in the Newingt on Church, 1900, by his descendant George Dudley Seymour. (HAW)
