Was brought out to California after her father's death by her father's un cle, George W. Woodward; but lived with Ebenezer and Seraph Waste Woodar d at Dunnigan. Poppy (Milton Durgy Woodard) said they were like sisters , she and Cora, Katie's sister. Katie married Will S. Evans on Augus 8, 1 895 at Woodland, California. When I (Jim Justeson) talked with her abou t 1963 or 1964, she was a very pleasant person to talk with, but she didn 't recall much of anything about her Woodard ancestry. Cora had alread y died. I talked with their father's cousin (my gr-grandfather, Eb's cous in) Cornelia Woodward Bigelow, dau. of William W. & Cora Auweter Woodward , but she also could venture nothing. She said something like, 'none of t hat old stuff means anything to me and I don't want to think about it, bu t I do remember seeing a grandfather or someone who was alive when Georg e Washington was.' I also enquired about all the large antique furnitur e items in her home, she then took me on a tour and said and did things l ike this: 'This old thing came around the horn in 1850 something,'whereu pon she hit it hard with her hardwood cane, leaving a dent. Poppy said h e hoped he could just outlive that mean Cornelia by one week! She's th e only relative he spoke ill of to me . . but he didn't make it. [S787]
