He learned the blacksmith trade from his father and followed him in busin
ess. He gave him land at the Common, with condition that he should carr
y on the blacksmith trade. In 1673 he bought Thomas Williams' house-dwell
ing on the east side of High Street, next to (on the south side) of Joh
n Coleman's. In 1676, he bought of William Hills and wife their house-dwe
lling on the west side of Bell Lane, between his fathers (on the north) a
nd Mrs. Samuel Martin (on the south). Probate Court records of Hartford l
ist his estate March 6, 1689/90 and that he died Sept. 1689. His brothe
r Stephen, was administrator of estate; 57L, 19s including blacksmith too
ls, household furniture and '8 shillings due from Thomas Jr (his son). H
e left his widow Elizabeth, sons Timothy 9, Nathaniel 7, Ebenezer 4, plu
s the older brother (Thomas Jr) by his first wife Lydia Kitchum. (Hist An
