Notes

Noadiah Hart was appointed administrator of Jonathan's estate, but it wa s only valued at L35. Jonathan's father gave him, in his will (dated 1730 ) a part of his home lot as would amount to L5. He settled in Kensingto n Society. The name used by Jonathan's children, in many cases, was Hurlb ert as well as Hurlburt.

Doctor JONATHAN HURLBURT came from that part of Farmington now called S outhington, having bought of Timothy Orton 120 acres in 1746. He is thoug ht to have been the first that practiced medicine in the township. It see ms that his medical profession was not his only employment. He was als o a mechanic, and made plows. His son Ozias lived and died on the same pl ace where his father did, a little south of the Sedgwicks. He had a natur al taste for poetry, and published a poem on the great hail storm which o ccurred in the summer of 1799. He lived to a good old age. His brother, J oab, lived near him, and died some years before him. Both are buried in t he old Cornwall Hollow cemetery. [S1109]
