From: Jackson Co. Pioneers; copyright 1975 by Pearl G. Wilcox, 116 Sout h Pleasant, Independence, MO 64050, Page 85- Oak Grove: Mr. and Mrs. Davi d Dailey, Irish immigrants, came to Sni bottoms in 1834 and bought 1000 a cres for $1.00 an acre. They became the parents of twenty-six children , among them several sons, and owned a large number of slaves, so clearin g and planting of the land did not present a great problem for the Dailey s.(97) Mr. Dailey is credited with breaking the first prairie land on t he east for of the Little Blue with a 'barshear plow' pulled by oxen. Af ter running deep furrows across the land he attempted to cross plow his f ield and the tough sod collected in huge piles in front of the plow. H e abandoned the idea, took his ax and cut holes in the obdurate turf, dro pped his corn and with another stroke of the ax, covered the seed. He ra ised a good crop that first year. (98) The Sni-a-Bar township had been o rganized in 1834, the year the Daileys arrived. The census listed about o ne hundred and fifty in the entire township, who lived mostly along the S ni and the Little Blue rivers; very few lived on the prairie lands.
