Was also a blacksmith, and after coming of age worked at his trade in Wet hersfield and Killingsworth. At age 27, entered into contract, 25 Oct 166 9, with first settlement of Middletown to locate there and 'do the Town' s work of smithing for seven years'. He became a large landholder and pro minent man in Middletown. Was a freeman, 1671, and sergeant in the Train- band. Also in 1671 the 'Gen. Ct.' granted him 120 acres of land, as bount y for his services in the war of 1637. He left an estate of 373L, 15s, 6d ; shop and home land, 100L; and other lots, 160L; cattle, etc., 46L, smit hs tools, etc., 10L. (Hist Anc Weth)
