Notes

Charles P. Carson was born on April 30, 1894 at Detroit, Michigan to Joh n Carson and Elizabeth Fleming. His mother died during childbirth and hi s Fleming aunts came and got him to take back to Montana (possibly Cut Ba nk; Glacier County or Shelby; Toole County). On June 21, 1916, he enlist ed into the U.S. Army at Shelby, Montana (Army serial number R-81-767). H e first served in the 2nd N.G. Montana Infantry: Company C at Helena, Mon tana: 163rd Infantry up to July 26, 1917 at Shelby, Montana and was late r stationed with Company C: 163rd Infantry up to February 10, 1919 and th en with Company E. 44th Infantry and was dischardged on September 23, 191 9 at Vancouver Barracks, Washington. Then he re-enlisted and served a sec ond tour-of-duty as an element of the 44th Infantry: Company K located a t Schofield Barracks, Honolulu, Hawaii. Then he served at Portland, Orego n with the 21st Infantry: Company H up to March of 1926 (at Schofield Bar racks; Honolulu, Hawaii) when he left the service for the second time t o get married on March 13, 1926 to Orpha (Orfie) Belle Carson (Mitchell) . Charles and his wife Orpha first lived at 128 North Francis Avenue; La nsing, Michigan where he worked as a drycleaner up to November of 1929. T heir next residence was 110 West Broad Street Eaton Rapids, Michigan. [no te: Orpha's social security number is 363-24-7471, Charles' number is unk nown. In additon, there is no record of him ever collecting his Army pens ion]. On September 19, 1930, he re-enlisted for a third time. His tour-of -duty included being an element of the 21st Infantry: Company H., then h e was briefly stationed at Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and then a t Fort Mc Dowell, California on June 15, 1934. He later was a Sergeant wi th the 21st Infantry: Company H. and served in the U.S. Army at Schofie d Barracks; Honolulu, Hawaii as a First Lieutenant (under the command o f Captain Joseph Monhollan of the 21st Infantry) until July of 1939. He m ay have lived: 1. in the Los Angeles area, 2. Hawaii, 3. Montana or 4. Mi chigan sometime after his military service ended. His wife Orpha divorce d Charles on June 19, 1942. Charles' jobs included serving in the U.S. Ar my, working as a drycleaner and being a restaurant cook on a train. Ther e is no record of him after July of 1939 when he left the U.S.Army.

That is all that is know about Charles P. Carson.

Olive Rathbun, his daughter states: "I got "the look" from my father. W e both have expressive eyes & pearly white teeth." Charles had an "excell ent build" due to his military training. Only one photo of my father exi sts that shows him in his uniform.
