Notes

He was a farmer and occupied the house and land given to him by his fathe r. He was admitted to the church on January 6, 1731. In 1734 he sold al l his right to the lands east of the Connecticut River (in Chatham) to Jo hn Churchill. In 1694, John Hurlbut Jr., petitioned the General Assembl y to appoint a committee to lay out the grant of 120 acres of land made t o his grandfather Thomas Hurlbut Sr., of Wethersfield, the emigrant ances tor of the family. 'John Collins and John Bacon of Middletown were appoin ted to lay out the Lot, where said John Hurlbut shall direct them, not in terfering with other grants, John Hurlbut's charge.' (State Record). Th e date of his death is not learned, but his will was dated March 14, 1715 , and proved September 1, 1753. His son John and son-in-law Jacob Whitmor e were executors. To son John he gave the bond in the hands of John Hamli n, and the land where he had erected a house (with the home lot) upon th e east side of the river (Chatham) with also all his interest in the undi vided lands in Wethersfield. He left legacies to his daughter Rebecca, wi fe of Jacob Whitmore; to grandson John Hurlbut, a minor, son of John 3rd ; to children of 2nd son Daniel, viz: Susanna and Hannah, lands, and 15 p ounds to Esther.
