Elisha was a lawyer ans practiced for for six years in Little Falls, NY.
, the moved to New York City and practiced in the autumn of 1835. There h
e continued in practice until 1847, when he was elected judge of the Supr
eme Court for the district and the city of New York. After nearly four ye
ars of judicial life, he resigned the office by reason of impaired health
, and retired into the country. In 1860 he settled in the town of Bethleh
em, NY., near Albany. He had written, with ability upon several topics o
f public interest, some of which are named; 'Civil Office and Political E
thics' 1840 'Human Rights and their Political Guarantee
s' 'Religion in the State, and the Bible in the Schools
