Providencetown papers #17458. has the following you Thoma s Burlingame ar in hermajesties name Queen Anne of england etc. to requir e youto take theconduct of 5 men besides yourself and with them to go for th upon ascouting order to range our coast and see if you can make discov ery ofthe approach of our enemiesand you shall judge yourself able to tak e orexpell them, then you are to do your best endeavor for the same; an d ifyou shall judge them to be to strong for you , then you are forwith t oalarm our town to the most convenient inhabitants thereof in order thatt he town may be forwith alarmed. You are to visit Woodstock and Oxfordan d to set forward upon your marchon wednesday next and to continue uponsai d service for seven days. and then follows Thomas Burlingame wentforth u pon the scout upon the 20th and came home on the 27th of june. Therecor d shows that he made 5 such scouting trips. The above orders werewritte n by Thomas Fenner and are undated , but said Fenner paid ThomasBurlingam e 12 shillings for a deer skin on the last trip, dated september13th, an d another entry reads recieved of Thomas Burlingame , one deerskin weighi ng 5.5 pounds and this is dated 1703 , which indicates that heserved unde r Queen Anne , whose rule was from 1702 -1714. He was chosesurveyor of th e highway in 1718-19-20 and again Sergeant Burlingame waschosen to care f or the highway in 1723. He deeded at sundry times land tohis sons , Thoma s JR, Samuel, Peter , Joshua , and Stephen. 8/23/1726 hegave bond for hi s wifes estate from her former husbands estate . His willdated 6/05/175 6 and proved 10/07/1758. Excutors Sons Thomas and Peter towife hanna h , 6 pounds per year for life to sons Thomas and Moses 5shillings eac h to sons Peter and Joshua 5 shillings each to GrandsonSamuel Burlingam e , 5 shillings to daughter margaret Remington , SarahBriggs, Freelove G orton , Alice Westcott, and Patience Burlingame 5shillings each to Grands on John Warner , 5 shillings and to son StephenBurlingame what is left o f the estate. All issue by the first marriageand all born cranston rhod e island. [S1084]
