However, the following could be ruled out: Henry & Alice Lak e - From the story of 'Alice Lake Executed as a Witch' by Alice Marie Bea rd, the descendants of Alice and her son, Thomas, b. 1644, are listed, a s well as his children. He is NOT Thomas of Stratford, but lived and die d in Little Compton, RI. John & Margaret Reade Lake - From the 'Ancestr y of John Lake, Husband of Margaret Reade Lake' by Walter Goodwin Davis , B.A., LL.B., Published in New England Historical & Genealogical Registe r - Margaret separated from her husband in 1635when she moved to America . John remained in England until his death. Their son, Thomas, born in 16 18, was too old to be Thomas of Stratford and living until 1628. Some rec ords show this Thomas marrying 'Mary' in 1638 and living in Boston, MA. T homas & Mary Goodyear - from 'A History of My People and Yours' by Clau d Nelson McMillan - their son, Thomas, b. 1656, returned to England and b ecame a barrister. John & Ann Spicer Lake - did not have a son named Thom as. John & Mary Coye Lake - had one son, Caleb, who died young. Did no t have anyother issue. [S1110]

Matthew and Priscilla Grant left England March 20, 1630. They 'settled a t Dorchester, Massachusetts, and [he] was admitted a freeman May 18, 1631 . In October, 1635, he went to the Connecticut river with the party tha t prepared for the settlement of Windsor, although his family did not rem ove there until the next April. His house lot was in Palisade, next the t own lot. This he gave to his son John, with whom he spent his declining y ears. It is said he was a carpenter by trade. He was the first surveyor o f the town, and for many years the only one; was deacon of the First Chur ch; town clerk from 1652 to 1677; selectman many years, frequently receiv ing the highest number of votes. In 1654 he compiled 'A Book of Record s of Town Ways in Windsor,' and he was also compiler of the 'Old C hurch Record,' which has furnished the basis for the histories of mos t of the families of ancient Windsor.' After Pricilla's death Matthew mar ried, May 29, 1645, Susanna (Capen or Chapin) Rockwell, daughter probabl y of Bernard Capen. No children were born in his second marriage.

Talk with Margaret Hurlburt Wallace, 7/22/1994: Margaret's mother, Maggie , was born a Welch of Irish parents. She's not sure when they came At th e time of her husbandÕs death in 1926, Mrs. Margaret Jane Hurlburt was li ving at the Imp s dinner. She mentioned nothing of a separation between h er parents. According to information on her death certificate given by he r son, Mr. Sidney C. Hawson of 6 e same county.
