History of Clarence Boies as told by Margaret O. Boies. Clarence Boies Fa mily was of French Descent and belonged to a Protestant Group known as H uguenots. During the time of intolerance in Europe Catholic intoleranc e of any deviating sect. In France, the King gave his support to a grou p determined to exterminate the Huguenots. On the evening if St. Battholo meus day in 1572 thousands of Huguenots men, women and children were masc ara.
But not all Catholics were involved in the plot. They warned their Huguen ots friends to leave France. The Boies Family were among those who escape d. They fled to Ireland.
Margaret did not know how long they stayed there, but she thought it wa s a long and difficult time. It may have been their children or grand chi ldren who migrated to America. She said some families stayed in Ireland a nd some returned to France.
Margaret thought that not all the Boies Family members settled in Wester n NY, but that some went West, at least as far west as they could in thos e years. She thought perhaps to Indiana. [S977]
