Notes
In 1949 Mrs. Eva Mooney wrote; "Edmund was very fat --- weighed between t
hree and four hundred pounds. Had a special chair made for him." At one t
ime he was employed by police force in Lowell, Kansas. (DNH EHH)
Newspaper clippings, undated, (which we quote), provide the only informa
tion available on this family:
"A very pleasant time was had at the house of Mr. Edmund Hurlbutt o
n the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 28th. Notwithstanding the early part o
f the evening was so unpleasant, by which doubtless many were kept away
, yet some 75 persons were present and cheerful and happy, to celebrate t
he 20th anniversary of the marriage of Edmund Hurlbutt and Miss Naomi Tho
mas. A splendid easy chair, a rich marble top center table and a beautif
ul hanging lamp were a few of the many good things presented. The presen
tation address was made by Mr. Clavel, and by Mr. Hurlbutt's request resp
onded to in his behalf by Rev. Mr. Stone, with some appreciative allusion
s to the past, the sad and pleasant changes since they stood as the youth
ful groom and bride 20 years ago, also
congratulating them that they had been spared to each other and had live
d so happily together during these 20 years and expressing the hope tha
t they might live to celebrate their golden and even their diamond weddin
g, etc. Prayer was then offered and all who could sing, heartily joine
d in singing the Doxology. A time of general social converse and good che
er followed, and a bountiful supper provided by Mr. & Mrs. Hurlbutt was p
artaken of by all with a zest. When Mr. and Mrs. Hurlbutt observe their g
olden or even their silver wedding may we be there."
He was married to Orra T. Farewell. Orra T. Farewell was born about 180
3. She died on 22 Jul 1835.
He was married to Nancy LEWIS (daughter of Samuel LEWIS and Margaret HEN
RY) on
23 Feb 1837. History of Littleton, New Hampshire Nancy LEWIS died abou
t 1881.
