Dan Hurlbut was a member of the Brockville Rifles Military Unit. He serv ed in Jamaica at a prisoner of war camp for the majority of his service a nd attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked for a number of year s at the Stetson Hat Works in Brockville, as a delivery man for Ralphs Da iry, as a labourer at Lion Grinding Wheel and as a caretaker/ stationar y engineer/ groundskeeper at the Fulford Home for the Aged. Dan or D ante, as he was known by some of his friends and family, enjoyed fishin g as his main interest. He also followed his favourite sports on televis ion and in the newspaper. He took particular interest in his family an d his grandchildren. Typically his name was misspelled on his birt h cetificate which was issued on the 12th day of April, 1957 as Dantfort h Ainsworth Hurlburt. Both his first given name, which he typically signe d as Danforth and his surname which is consistently spelled Hurlbut are i ncorrect?.....or are they? The Hurlbut I have found spelled many differe nt ways but almost all of the family with the exception of Danforth Ainsw orth Hurlburt (the first), spelled it without the second 'R'. Dans R egimental # was C-80095. His Social Insurance Number was 417-570-967 an d his last drivers licence number was H9380-15311-71001. Birthplac e on the birth certificate is given as Cressy, Prince Edward County but i n his Canadian Army records is Picton, Ontario. Birth registration numbe r is 17-05-046034.
