Joseph graduated Yale College in 1818 and pursued theological studies a t Andover and Princeton. He was licensed to preach and was Pastor of th e 3rd Presbyterian Church in Albany, New York. From ill health he was soo n obliged to return to New London, Ct. He did not relinquish altogether h is ministerial calling. Much might be said regarding the example of thi s excellent man, his generous contribution of funds, his activity in th e cause of educational interest. His funeral was largely attended in 1875 , the services being conducted by Rev. Dr. O. E. Draggett, pastor of th e 2nd Congregational Church New London, supplemented by a brief address b y Rev Thomas L. Shipman of Jewett City, a college classmate and long frie nd. Rev. Dr. Thomas P. Field of the 1st Church concluded the services a t the grave. The House in which Joseph and his family resided, was buil t by General Jedediah Huntington in 1796, and was in part copied from th e mansion at Mount Vernon. (Hurlbut Gen)
