Winnie Vanderveen met Francis E. Hurlbut (Frank)while she was
working at her family's stationery store. They courted, as theysaid
in those days, and were married on September 17th, 1903. She was 21
andhe was almost 25. The wedding took place at the 4th Avenue Methodist
Church in Brooklyn. The couple moved into Winnie's family house at
961 52nd Street, Brooklyn.
Frank was an electrician, and Winnie operated a millinery and
corset shop. On April 1st, 1920, Frank died at the age of 41, leaving
behind a widow with 3 children ranging in age from 11 to 5.
