My grandfather said birth date 1860. The 1900 census said 1858. both pare nts born in Ohio.

"Hurlburtt, R. B. died suddenly at his residence 928 North Cherry [tha t would be Galesburg, IL] at an early hour October 13, 1908, following a n attack of heart failure. He was taken sick Thursday due to stomach com plaint. Monday evening he retired to his room after taking medication, a bout 12:30 this morning summoned his wife and seemed in great pain. Ralp h Bacon Hurlburtt native of Loraine county, Ohio, and would have been ag e 50 years had he lived until November 28 of this year. When age six yea rs his parents moved to Iowa settling near Marshalltown. Here he grew t o manhood and married, Lida Burley who survives, July 4, 1879. He farme d in Marshall county several years and for a time in the service of Burli ngton & Northern road of that state. In 1883 commenced his service wit h Burlington, spending a month in Aurora and the rest in this city.
Member of BLE, Burlington Relief, Mystic Workers of the World, Masonic l odge. He leaves wife, brother, Grant Hurlburtt of Grundy county, Iowa, s ister, Mrs. Almyra Whorrell residing same place. Six children, Gould Hur lburtt of Monmouth who is running on Iowa Central railroad, Mrs. Dora Hof strom, Miss Julia Hurlburtt of Chicago, Mrs. Madge Skidmore of this city , Paul and Glenn at home. Three grandchildren, Helen Hurlburtt of Kewane e, Edith Hofstrom, Lorraine Skidmore of this city.
