Following is a quote from Stiles 'History of Ancient Windsor,' Vol
ume 2.
John Porter, Sr. came from England and settled here in Windsor in 1639
. According to statements furnished to Henry D. White, Esq. of New Haven
, Conn., he came from England, with his wife and nine children from Felst
ed, County Essex, England, probably in the ship Susan and Ellen, 17 July
, 1638, and in company with his brother-in-law, Joseph Loomis. In the Par
ish Register of Messing, County Essex, England, is the following record o
f marriage.
'1620, October 18, John Porter of Felsted and Anna White of Messing
. Anna, as we find from the Messing Parish Register, was baptized 13 July
, 1600, and was the daughter of Robert White of Messing by his wife, Brid
get (daughter of William) Allgar of Shalford, County Essex, and was proba
bly the sister of Mary White of Messing who married Joseph Loomis, the em
igrant ancestor of the Windsor family of that name. Another sister, Eliza
beth White, married 7 November, 1616, William Goodwin of Hartford, and th
e three are thought to have been the sisters of Elder John White, thoug
h this is not yet proven. Both the Loomis and Goodwin marriages are fro
m the Shalford Parish Register.'
He had land grant in Windsor; was appointed constable, 1639-40; grand-ju
ror, 1643, juror 1640; deputy to General Court 1646 and 1647 and a promin
ent man in the community. He died 21 and buried 22 April, 1648, in Windso
r Congregational church yard; left a large estate. His will is given in T
rumbull's Col. Record, Conn. John Porter's wife died 1647. (Quote fr

Janie Kay Sorheim. The following is her 1995 report.
[S713]
I graduated from Blackduck High School in May of 1985. I attended Bemidj
i State University and graduated in May of 1990 with a degree in Technica
l Illustration/Graphic Design program. I moved to the Twin Cities and wo
rked in several different short term positions until finding my current p
osition in October of 1991 at the HealthEast Corporation in St. Paul, MN
. My company is a large health corporation of 5,000 plus employees who s
erve hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes. I am a Media Service Special
ist. I and three others are the in-house media service department for ou
r company. I enjoy my work and am grateful that God has blessed me wit
h such a great place to work!
[S713]
I have moved around a lot since moving to the cities therefore making i
t difficult to settle down in one church or groups of friends. I am no
w living in St. Louis park and share a duplex with a girlfriend. I hav
e been dating a very nice gentleman (Andy Norberg), for about four years
. He is a flight attendant for United Airlines.
[S713]
In my spare time, I have learned to enjoy ballroom dancing. Andy and I h
ave been part of ballroom dancing competitions for three years. In fact
, we met in a dancing class at the University of Minnesota. Recently w
e joined seven other couples in a formation team. We go and perform a
t various public gatherings. In addition to dancing, I enjoy exercising
, bike riding, movies, fairs, and anything new and interesting.
[S713]
My greatest dreams for the future include traveling (anywhere and everywh
ere!), and having my own horse, ranch someday!
